Capitoline Wolf
Capitoline Wolf
The Capitoline Wolf is a sculpture depicting a scene from the legend of the founding of Rome. The sculpture depicts a she-wolf suckling the mythical twin founders of Rome, Romulus and Remus. According to legend, when King Numitor, grandfather to the twins, was over-thrown the usurper ordered them cast into the TImber River. They were rescued by a she-wolf that cared for them until they were found and raised by a herdsman.
This small statue stands about 3.5" tall and is marked G.P. Believed to be white resin on a black resin base, there is evidence of a repair to the statue's feet. Please see images for details.
