Sevres factory was founded in the town of Vincennes in 1740 and then reestablished in larger quarters at Sèvres in 1756. It became the preeminent porcelain manufacturer in Europe in the second half of the eighteenth century. Louis XV had been an early investor in the fledgling ceramic enterprise and became its sole owner in 1759. It has been owned by the French crown or government since 1759.
.
This stunning example of a Sevres tazza bears the underglazed blue interlocked "L" insignia with the letter "s" signaling the creation of this hand-painted, ormalu guilded piece in 1771.
.
This exquisite and rare piece is ornate in 24k gold paint and ormalu mounts. The ormalu base is stamped FRANCE. The translucent blue glaze is indescribable and photos do not do this justice. Inside the bowl of the compote is featured a young lady fishing while two small lambs look on.
.
The tazza measures approximately 6.5" tall and 7.5" wide.
